It’s simple: experience is gained from learning through mistakes. And someone has to pay for those mistakes. When you hire an experienced candidate, you’re benefiting from the cost that previous employers paid for their education. This means less “unforced errors” and no “f*** around and find out” moments.
However, exposure ≠ experience. People learn different things when exposed to the similar situations and that experience may not match what you’re looking for. That’s where the interview comes in – to ensure that the candidate matches their resume and the experience they gained is what you want for your company.
